Pelvic Physiotherapy is a relatively new and growing field. Pelvic Health Physiotherapists have completed specialized post-graduate training to skillfully assess and treat issues pertaining to the pelvis including dysfunction of the pelvic organs, muscles (i.e. the pelvic floor), bones, joints, nerves, ligaments and connective tissue.

We understand that pelvic conditions can be very disturbing and can interfere with many aspects of your daily life. Because these conditions are not openly talked about, you might feel alone and that nothing can be done. You may have even been told that what you’re struggling with is “normal” after having a baby, surgery or with age. We want you to know that something can be done and that you don’t have to do this alone! We have a team of highly skilled, compassionate and experienced therapists who can help you on your journey towards feeling healthy and whole again.

Pelvic floor exams can be done six weeks postpartum and beyond.

*** if you are interested in a postpartum appointment but have not seen our therapists before please book an initial assessment.

What can we help you with? Conditions we commonly treat include:

  • Prenatal/Postnatal Dysfunction

  • urinary incontinence

  • pelvic organ prolapse

  • diastasic rectus abdominus (abdominal “separation”)

  • pubic symphysis dysfunction

  • sciatica, low back pain

  • rib pain

  • constipation

  • preparation for birth

  • guidance for return to exercise postpartum (yes, even including high levels of activity/sport like running, CrossFit and HIIT)

  • Cesarean birth recovery

  • pelvic floor strengthening

  • Pelvic Pain

  • vulvodynia/vestibulodynia

  • sacroiliac joint pain

  • groin pain

  • pain in the perineum

  • Sexual pain and dysfunction

  • painful intercourse

  • clitorodynia

  • vaginismus

What to expect at your first appointment:

At your first visit, one of our physiotherapists will meet with you for about an hour. We listen to your story - What have you been struggling with? How do you get there? How is your condition impacting your life, your mood, your relationships? From here, we take a whole-body approach to the assessment and treatment of your condition. To get the clearest picture of how things are functioning, an internal vaginal and/or rectal exam may be suggested. This allows us to more specifically assess the strength, tone, endurance and coordination of things like the pelvic floor muscles. Please note that we NEVER carry out any assessment or treatment techniques without your consent. Our therapists are experienced and knowledgable professionals who can set you up with an effective treatment plan even if you choose not to participate in an internal exam. Please note that if you and your physiotherapist determine that an internal examination is warranted, this will not be completed until after your 6-week postpartum check up.

The first session will finish off with treatment. This may include a combination of education, manual therapy techniques, stretching, strengthening exercises, activity modification, acupuncture or other therapeutic modalities.

Dayna Morelatto, Physiotherapist

I have always had an interest in how the body moves and love to restore people to their activities and help them to achieve their goals. I am passionate about helping mamas stay active, be pain free and feel in control of their body wherever they may be in their Motherhood journey. As a mother of two myself, I am so honored to be a part of the Rebirth team, a place which helped to support me during both of my pregnancies and post partum periods.

I completed my Masters of Physiotherapy at The University of Western Ontario and have completed further training in Acupuncture, Post natal fitness and of course Pelvic Physiotherapy. I look forward to connecting with each client and working together to achieve whatever the goal may be. Treatments may include manual therapy, exercise prescription, acupuncture and lots of education so you can feel empowered in your own rehab.

Megan Badder, Physiotherapist

I am honoured to be a part of the Rebirth team. With 15+ years’ experience as a registered physiotherapist in a clinical orthopaedic setting, I have helped clients of all ages achieve their functional goals. I am committed to providing guidance and support to mamas and mamas to be in their journey to move easier, change pain, and improve their quality of life. Treatment may include exercise prescription, manual therapy and soft tissue techniques, and education.

I completed my Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa in 2003. I then went on to graduate from the Masters of Physical Therapy program at the University of Western Ontario in 2005. Post graduate interests have led me to pursue training in pelvic health, myofascial release and Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) through the Robin McKenzie Institute Canada. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my husband and two playful and fun-loving children, playing and watching baseball, and curling up with a good book.
