The early days with a new baby can be challenging! I work to educate, nurture, and support you during your transition as you balance the triumphs, challenges, and the emotions of those early days. It can be hard to find your rhythm when your body is recovering, sleep is scarce, and you are adjusting to your new roles - I look forward to helping with that! I believe that nurturing and supporting families during the postpartum period is beneficial for everyone: birthing people, their partners, and the entire family. I've seen it firsthand as I have provided this support over the past 8 years and feel honoured and passionate about continuing this work. I love supporting all birthing people and all types of families. My care is unique to you and your family, but I have included some examples of topics we could cover and goals we could address together.

Some ideas of things we could do during your in-home support visits:

  • Education on well-baby care and normal newborn behaviour and needs

  • Answering your questions about your newborn and providing hands-on teaching - e.g. bath time, feeding, swaddling, sleeping

  • Infant feeding support (breast/chest feeding and/or bottle feeding and pumping - information and hands-on support)

  • Answering your questions about, and providing suggestions to aid with, your physical recovery - e.g. bleeding, pain, activity levels, breastfeeding, etc

  • Assistance in identifying individual and family needs, and helping to create a plan for self-care and plan of support for the family

  • Discussing helpful strategies for the early days

  • Education on normal postpartum mood fluctuations and postpartum mood disorders, and providing emotional support

  • Caring for your baby while you take time for yourself, such as a shower, eating, having a nap, or going for a walk - it's amazing how different you can feel when you fit in a bit of self-care time, and you will know your baby is in experienced hands while you do!

    Fees & Services Booked:

  • $50/hour (minimum of 3 hours)

  • 10-hour Daytime package for $450 - you can break up number of hours over days or weeks.

Sara Olson, In Home Postpartum Support

Hi there! I’m so glad you’re here. A little about me…

I have worked as a Registered Midwife for the past 8 years supporting birthing people, their babies, and their families. Two of the most important and fulfilling parts of my role were educating families with the goal to empower them, as well as supporting new families during their earliest days. Pregnancy, birth, and babies can be confusing! I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences, and hearing about yours, and feel honoured to be a part of the support that will help you find your rhythm during the early days. I strive to be a safe space for all birthing people and all of their diverse families. I have always felt so lucky to be allowed to be a part of new families' journeys into parenthood and be welcomed into their homes and lives, and am thrilled to be able to continue with that.
I completed my Bachelor of Health Sciences in Midwifery at McMaster University in 2015. Before this, I completed a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario, with an Honours specialization in psychology, focusing mainly on developmental and clinical psychology.
I enjoy spending time outside in the sunshine, seeing family and friends, and nothing brings me more joy than spending time with my twin daughters.
